We want to support women to enter and retain into the industry
Liverpool Girl Geeks was originally started in 2013 with the intention of supporting women in tech across the city region, to provide a space for women to network, chat and exchange ideas. We also wanted to provide a platform to showcase all the amazing women in tech, to inspire the next generation of innovators.
It was a direct response to the lack of visible role models and female advocates within the sector, along with a desire to create a community which would support the few women in the local tech sector who operate within a male dominated environment.
We started as a blog and twitter feed, which quickly gained traction and support within the local digital community. It has grown into so much more than that, as we’ve responded to the needs of the local digital businesses and education providers. We now offer many programmes for teens as well as women. We also work with many men who want to understand the gender diversity issue and create workplaces which women will be attracted to.
We’re staying true to our roots by continuing to provide a free monthly meet up for women to help facilitate the exchange of ideas and inspiration, and a range of regular, cost effective courses which are designed to equip women and men with the skills they need to work in the digital and tech sector.
There are many ways you can engage with us, from dropping into a monthly meet up, offering to speak at an event, becoming a mentor on our teen programmes, teaching or leading a workshop for us, blogging, or even supporting us by becoming a company member.
