Tech 4 Teens workshops are for girls (Aged 11-17) interested in Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths. All of the sessions will be really interactive, creative and fun! Throughout 2017 we will meet up once a month to get inspired and meet like minded girls. We will be learning new things and learning from each other.
In November we’re heading to FACT to explore the art of filmmaking and storytelling!
This workshop is about empowering YOU to tell YOUR story through video that you’ve created on your smartphone. You will need to bring a device along to film on, preferably a smartphone (but if not a tablet or camera will be fine). The workshop will be led by Imran Azam, Founder of http://thisisreel.co/.
‘Storytelling’ is the way we communicate with each other and the outside world. Its how we get across what we think AND feel. Great stories bring us closer together and create meaningful connections that open up new opportunities.
Currently the most popular stories online are told through video. Video is the dominant content medium online and being able to tell your story through it will give you a huge advantage.
What will you learn?
Imran will destroy any myths you may have around filming on a smartphone; its not a secondary filmmaking choice…it is THE choice! We will look at examples of what Imran and others around the world have created using their phones. We will look at the opportunities that currently exist and where the tech is headed. We’ll talk about the platforms that support video, particularly Instagram, and explore its story feature.
And of course you will gain hands on experience of filming, editing and publishing video using your smartphone (or device). We’ll explore the space at FACT to get our shots!
What do you need to attend?
A ‘can do’ attitude and an Android, iPhone or Windows smartphone. Thats it! Access to an instagram account would also be advantageous but is not essential. We will have a limited number of spare tablets for participants to borrow.
The sessions are FREE to attend thanks to the support of the Big Lottery fund but you do need to register so that we can manage numbers.
Please note: If you book a ticket please make sure you can attend so that somebody else has the opportunity to come. We have limited spaces available.
**Venue and activities are subject to changes – details will be sent out by email before each session to those who have registered**
