On International Women’s Day Ngunan Adamu, BBC presenter, producer, social entrepreneur & international multi-media trainer, imparted her wisdom upon our Lunch & Learn attendees and encouraged us to be our own role models.🙌🏾

Ngunan’s two mottos that she lives by are ‘pay it forward if you can’ and ‘what would Michelle Obama do?’

We were so inspired by the advice that Ngunan gave us that we wanted to share her top tips with our community:

  1. Always have the courage to try new things. You never know where it might take you.
  2. Put yourself in difficult situations to overcome your fears and grow your confidence.
  3. You’re never too old to learn and evolve. Stay curious.
  4. You’ll always have enemies if you’re truly good at what you do. Just stay focussed and be your own cheerleader.
  5. Keep your mind healthy as well as your body.
  6. Identify and surround yourself with your champions. Get a mentor or even a few mentors.
  7. ‘Manage up’ if it’s not working with your boss. Be proactive and ask them for catch ups and what their objectives are this week.
  8. It’s ok to be you - let your quirkiness shine!
  9. Learn something new and read more. Have a hobby.
  10. Ask questions about your heritage - Ngunan says; ‘if you know where you’ve come from, you know where you’re heading’.
  11. Set and reach new goals (including mini-goals to help you get there).
  12. Accept your good and bad traits.
  13. Build a personal brand. Think about what 3 words best describe you?
  14. Follow your gut instinct. If it doesn’t feel right or sound right - it’s probably wrong!
  15. Above all…love yourself!

We hope you will take this advice on board, as we definitely will be. And if you’re ever not sure what to do, just remember - what would Ngunan do?
