PANEL DEBATE – YOUNG PEOPLE IN TECH
In May we’ve invited a panel of inspiring young people to talk about what it’s like to be starting a career in the sector and their perceptions on how to address the digital skills gap. Come along to get an insight into how Generation Z think about tech! Panel members include:
Isobel Hyde-Walker, Junior Client Manager at Uniform
Isobel is from Liverpool and has a degree in English and History from Leeds University. Whilst at university, she spent a year on exchange in Copenhagen. Following graduation, she taught English in Southern Italy before gaining a place with Agent Academy. She now works as a Junior Client Manager at Uniform.
Michael Van Der Velden, Student at Studio School and entrepreneur
Michael is a young entrepreneur and the founder of Vandie Studios Ltd. He is a Computer Science student at the Studio School in Liverpool’s Baltic Triangle area. He is currently working on a reward system for schools to implement, called Thanks.
Jessica Ingrey, GCSE student and LGG academy graduate
Jess is currently studying Computer Science at GCSE level with the aim of pursuing a career in that. Jess is very passionate about bridging the gender gap in tech. She is a recent graduate of Liverpool Girl Geeks’ Academy, and says “I’ve always loved numbers and all the subjects using them, so I suppose I could be the typical ‘geek’. Contrary to popular belief, girls can actually code and I’m out to prove it!”
Oliver Hewitson, Agent Academy student
Oliver is from Liverpool and graduated last year with a psychology degree from LJMU. Having found that stereotypical ‘office work environment’ was not for him, Oliver gained a place at Agent Academy to gain hands on experience in a creative environment.
Our chair for this event is Zoe Wallace, Head of Agent Academy
Joining us as Chair is Zoe, Head of Agent Academy since September 2015. She is delighted to be able to combine her years of experience in the world of marketing and digital technology with working alongside young people; supporting them to make the most of themselves and take every opportunity they get. Zoe’s vision is for Agent Academy to transform how we deliver creative and digital education to young people in the future.
