Binary Fest 2016

As one of the founders of LGG I thought it was time I wrote another blog post and what better to write about than the recent and first #BinaryFest16, Liverpool’s new festival for all techies, digi divas & creatives alike!

The festival existed for 2 days, the first being filled with gatherings and the second with incredible keynote speakers at the infamous arts centre; FACT. We were so delighted when we were asked to host a gathering where we chose to run our most popular workshop ‘Get your head around code’; a session that allows you to understand the absolute basics of code, different languages and what you can use them for.

Day 1 was tremendous! As well as having a really successful gathering I attended Uniform’s IOT Vs VR session at Constellations. Everything from the ice breaker to the finish was super fun, we drew each other and sent each other to space, we designed concepts around what you could use VR for within entertainment/travel/empathy and we even got to get hands on making our own VR accessory! The guys and girls at Uniform are also doing some incredible work with their own VR project Grip - check it out if you haven’t already!

Day 2 was filled with inspiring speakers, from app innovators to Physicists and our all time favourite Sam Aaron. Now Sam Aaron… where do we start? If there’s anyone that could persuade you to learn Code in a second it would be him. Sam is the founder of Sonic Pi, a programme that allows you to write music in code. His talk gave me actual shivers, I think I told someone that he should of ended every session as he picked you right back up after the (not boring oh no no no, but less ‘uplifting’) talks of the day!

Coding is one of the greatest forces we have

Also check out what Alder Hey are doing as they did a great talk about E-health and innovation!

Overall, Binary Fest was boss! Big up to the organisers for truly making it something special.

Here’s to #BinaryFest2017
